We are inevitably imperfect, and no matter how much we strive to earn His approval, we can’t do it by our own merits. It’s by grace that He comes to us in Jesus Christ to offer us forgiveness for our sins. Humans, with our limited understanding, have tried to create ways to reach God based on our own understanding. But according to the Bible, “‘… my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,’ declares the LORD” (Isaiah 55:8). To reconcile man with his Creator there can’t be any other way than Jesus Christ, because in order to cross the chasm that (due to our sin) separates us from Him, we need a bridge that must be both human and divine.
As you can imagine, this man had suffered much for being blind. But God used that situation to show His love to many people. So, God can use suffering so when He intervenes, it reveals His glory and power. Finally, I want to share something extremely important in understanding God’s purposes in allowing us to suffer. God wants His children to become mature and to develop a character that shows the fruit of the Spirit. The trials and difficulties that we face, when we walk with Jesus, perfect our character and help us grow.
And I think this topic interests mostly those who are playing with sin or those who want to scare somebody into stopping a habit of sin. The problem with the latter is that somebody who stops sinning due to fear is also rejecting God’s love, because fear can’t save us. Rather, we are saved when we return His love by repenting and rejecting anything that offends our God. That’s when we receive His grace expressed at the cross of Calvary. Whoever truly experiences a conversion will always be connected with that spiritual reality in his life, and won’t be wondering whether the grace of God will suffice or not.
