" These changes seem to reflect Philo s hope that a Jewish king would find great prosperity at some point in the fixture. T h e most eschatological material in the Philonic corpus clearly comes from the last treatise o f the Exposition, namely. On Rewards and Punishments. If the passage from Special Laws 3 . 1 - 6 refers to the persecution o f 38 C E , then Philo Ukely wrote this treatise after the pogrom.

See Philos treatise On Mating with the Preliminary Studies. Especially since he then subordinates philosophy to wisdom (Congr. 79). In other words, why would Philo lead up to philosophy as the pinnacle beyond the preparatory studies, only then to make something else the height? This presentation makes sense if philosophy was the object of his study after his preliminary studies, after which he pressed on to an even higher wisdom.
