Sociological knowledge, then, is divorced from the knowledge required to do the things about which sociology purports to know. [5] In other words, the point of view of the detached sociological observer—looking for explanations—produces a distorted understanding of the situation in question, a view which reifies and overemphasises ideals, norms, values, etc.
