The MW Kellogg Company, Houston-based chemical engineers, took a special interest in this problem and set up a safety campaign on their own worldwide construction sites. Within a period of two years the fatality rate fell to a level close to that for factories. Further reductions however proved to be difficult. Professor Robertson, a psychologist at the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology, carried out similar work on engineering construction sites in north-west England, and likewise succeeded in reducing accidents.
