Place one of the dishes containing congo red and one of the dishes containing methylene blue in the refrigerator. Record the temperature in the refrigerator. Dilute the congo red and the methylene blue solutions to 50% strength and fill the wells in the remaining two dishes. Place the four dishes (2 × 100% + 2 × 50%) on the laboratory bench and record the room temperature. Allow the dishes to remain undisturbed for at least 24 hours. During the next laboratory period, or at a time designated by the laboratory instructor, use a metric rule to measure the distance from the edge of the well to the diffusion edge in each of the four dishes.
