Working on a cutting board or mat, place the template plastic over the top of the interfacing on the bag base. TIP: You can use gluestick (the type that is used for paper crafts) to hold the template plastic in place on the back of the interfacing, or you can tape all layers to the cutting board.

If you are not using bag rings, unpick the temporary seam. If you are using rings, gently lift out the corners of the strap with a tailor’s awl (or darning needle) to make the corners sharp and square. It’s worth taking the time to ensure that the end of the strap is very flat and square, as it will be the stitch guide for the top stitching that encloses the ring in the strap. 9. Check that the seam is flat and open within the tube, and press the strap very flat. 10. If necessary, slipstitch (ladder stitch) to close the opening in the strap.

1. Use the bag base (pattern piece #6) to cut the main or contrast fabric. Cut the bag base support (pattern piece #7) in Peltex 71 or 72 or fast2fuse. 3. Using the long edges of the Peltex/fast2fuse as a folding edge, turn the long edges of the base piece over the edges of the Peltex/fast2fuse, and press them to fuse. Do not fold the short ends of the base (these will go into the seams at the base of the side panels). If you’re using Peltex 71, add a narrow strip of fusible tape to hold the folded edges in place.
