Nigel Parsons's The Politics of the Palestinian Authority: From Oslo to PDF

By Nigel Parsons

This publication explores the improvement of the Palestinian Liberation association (PLO) from a liberation circulate to a countrywide authority, the Palestinian nationwide Authority (PNA).

Based on extensive fieldwork within the West financial institution, Gaza and Cairo, Nigel Parsons analyzes Palestinian inner politics and their institutional-building by means of taking a look at the advance of the PLO. Drawing on interviews with top figures within the PLO and the Palestinian Authority, delegates to the negotiations with Israel, and the Palestinian political competition, it's a well timed account of the Israel/Palestine clash from a Palestinian political perspective.

Over the years, the relationship between the PLO and Palestinian society has grown to resemble that of a state and a society, albeit one in which the state in question remained very heavily qualified. In this respect, Palestinian society can be said to have formed a key component of the structural context conditioning the trajectory of the PLO in the transition toward an institutional solution. It follows that the aspects of Palestinian society of most interest are those that formed structural constraints or resources for the leadership as human agents.
